WINTER 2021/2022
I worked as a rental technician at Heavenly Ski Resort from 12/23/21 to 1/12/22 (3 weeks) for a total of about 130 hours. I learned how to tech skis and snowboard rentals for customers as well as how to fit boots for customers and I learned how to man the register. I worked during the busiest part of the season and learned how to time manage under pressure. I also gained a greater appreciation for people who commute full time to their job (I live 45 minutes away from Stagecoach Lodge at Heavenly where I worked).
SUMMER 2022
I took a 400 hour coding and data analytics lab from NCLab in order to improve my computer and statistical literacy. I know am fluent in SQL and Python, as well as deepening my knowledge of statistics and data analysis. Over the course of the summer, I also mountain biked 553 miles with a 67,000 ft elevation gain total in 75 hours. Mountain biking was an awesome way to destress from the previous semester and get ready for my 3rd semester.
WINTER 2022/2023
I worked as a Rental Technician over my four week winter break. I further developed hands on ski and snowboard technical skills that I originally developed during my first year. I also improved upon my teamworking and communication skills. My family also went to California to visit my Grandparents who live in Concord for Christmas, and then we visited Monterey Bay Aquarium and went to Big Basin Redwoods State Park where we saw the massive old growth redwoods.
SUMMER 2023
I took HIST 101: American History to 1877 at Western Nevada College. I also spent a month in Germany, where I spent time with family and improved upon my German language skills. I spent two weeks with my cousin Janny, in Neuenhagen (bei Berlin), Brandenburg (the town my dad grew up in) where we spent time exploring Berlin and catching up with family. I then spent two weeks with my Aunt Baerbel in Wardenburg, Niedersachsen where we explored the old city-state of Oldenburg and traveled to Holland to explore the city of Groningen.
WINTER 2023/2024
I spent the month working for Heavenly Ski Resort as a rental Technician like I had done the past two winters. This was the first year in which we didn't have enough snow to start the season on-time. Thus, I actually spent most of the season working at Kirkwood Ski Resort (another Vail Resort, about an hour south of Heavenly, so they get better snow). I enjoyed the opportunity to work at a different resort than usual and I met a lot of new people that I'm excited to go snowboarding with again next season.
SUMMER 2024
I went home for a few weeks to Carson City, NV to watch my little sister graduate from high school (not so little anymore, that girl is about to go on to become a D1 swimmer). I then spent the rest of the summer researching in Dr. Wand's research lab-- I worked 25 hours a week throughout July and August for compensation (see the Research tab for more information). I also spent a considerable amount of time in Houston visiting my wonderful girlfriend Anushka while she stays with family in Houston for her summer internship.
WINTER 2024/2025
I (will) spend the month working for Heavenly Ski Resort as a rental Technician like I have done the past three winters.
